“My soul, where are you? Do you hear me? I speak, I call you—are you there? I return, I am here again. I have shaken the dust of all the lands from my feet, and I have come to you, I am with you. After long years of long wandering, I have come to you again.”

– C.G. Jung, The Red Book: Liber Novus (2009), p. 232-

Milena Harizanova - Jungian Analyst

About Me

Milena Harizanova

I am a clinical psychologist and Jungian analyst, an individual member of the International Association of Analytical Psychology (IAAP), a psychotherapist with a Jungian orientation, a member of the Bulgarian Society of Analytical Psychology “C. G. Jung”, and a certified art therapist.

I am a psychological astrologer as well – a graduate of the Astrological Psychology Association (UK). Astrology has been a long-standing passion in my personal and professional life — not only as a social, psychological, and symbolic phenomenon, but also as an organising principle of human experience. I regard astrology as a symbolic language that illuminates the deeper dimensions of the psyche, the outer world, and the liminal space in between — where synchronistic meaning can emerge.

Along this journey, astrology has revealed itself as a crossroad of multiple scientific and humanistic domains that deeply interest me: astronomy, quantum physics, mythology, archaeology, alchemy, anthropology, shamanism, and the study of primitive and altered states of mind.

My Approach

My clinical work is grounded in Jungian theory. Jung famously said, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate” (Jung, 1951/1968, CW 9ii, p. 42). To catch glimpse of the unconscious within the alchemical vessel of the analytic process, we attend to dreams and symbolic material. But dreams are not the only gateway – the unconscious continually manifests itself in myriad ways: through creative processes, behaviors, words, feelings, affects, body sensations, gestures, relational movements during sessions…

In my thinking as an analyst, I integrate attachment theory, object-relations perspectives, and developmental psychology. I take into consideration the pre- and perinatal experiences of the psyche. My deep interest in these primitive preverbal states defined the topic of my master’s thesis in clinical psychology – it examined the effects of maternal prenatal stress on offspring’s later mental health.

Because the connection between psyche and body is inseparable — and because we often forget that the psyche’s indwelling of the body is itself an achievement (Winnicott, 1988, The Collected Works of D. W. Winnicott: Volume 11 – Human Nature and The Piggle) — I train in BodyDreaming, a therapeutic approach that integrates body work, dreams, and symbols, drawing on neuroscience, attachment theory, and Jungian psychology. This integrative method supports the processing of traumatic experiences, affect regulation, and the cultivation of psychological resilience.

What is Jungian Analysis

Jungian analysis is an in-depth method for exploring the contents and dynamics of the unconscious and uncovering the hidden patterns that shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through dream analysis, early-life exploration, archetypal awareness, and reflective dialogue, Jungian analysis illuminates the unknown within. This process of becoming whole, of becoming yourself — called individuation — supports personal growth, emotional healing, and a deeper understanding of one’s life purpose. It helps navigate inner conflicts, confront the shadow aspects of the psyche, and cultivate an authentic sense of being in one’s own body and the world. Jungian analysis offers a path to meaningful transformation and fosters a more truthful connection with oneself across all domains of psychological and existential experience, including relationships, career, and personal development.

My Practice

My practice is based in Sofia, Bulgaria. It offers a safe and confidential space where one can explore their inner world. For a deep and sustained therapeutic process, a weekly rhythm is recommended as the minimum frequency.

Sessions last 50 minutes and are held in-person whenever possible, though online sessions are also available in certain cases.

I provide a consistent frame and clear boundaries, creating the containment necessary for deep psychological work. Together, we open up the space for thoughts, emotions, dreams, bodily experiences, and relational patterns, always honoring the client’s pace and personal goals.

Fees and scheduling details are discussed transparently at the outset; please note that fees are reviewed and may be updated annually at the beginning of each year. The first session serves to clarify expectations, set intentions, and establish the rhythm that best supports one’s psychological process.

I work in both English and Bulgarian.
